
Makea Luzader is a digital producer for DC News Now and a proud cat parent with a love of editing text and videos. Makea is a native of Frostburg, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a double major in broadcast journalism and government & politics as well as a minor in Chinese. They joined the team as a digital reporter in 2020 before producing and starting in 2021.
Video editing and producing documentaries sparked a love for visual storytelling in middle school when Makea participated in the statewide National History Day competition for several years in a row. After high school, Makea took a gap year in Beijing, China, for total immersion classes at the Beijing Language and Culture University.
While at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, Makea reported for Capital News Service, covering events throughout the state of Maryland, the Maryland General Assembly and national politics in Washington, DC, including the Supreme Court.
Makea strives to continue pushing for better and better coverage and to tell the stories of those who may not have their voices heard as often.
