Taniya Wright is excited to return to the DMV as co-anchor of DC News Now from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Taniya has more than 15 years of experience in local news, anchoring newscasts in Houston, Texas, Raleigh, N.C. and Tulsa, Okla. Wright is well-known to area viewers having started her on-air career at WDVM anchoring the noon, 5 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. newscasts.
She has had the privilege to share many unique stories and interviews from each community in which she has lived. A few of her most memorable interviews feature a veteran suffering from PTSD and learning how to recover through dance, two women trail bosses from the only female-led trail group at the Houston Rodeo and a real-life couple whose love story was featured in the Broadway musical “Come from Away.”
Off camera, Taniya has emceed, been a guest speaker, volunteered and has been an active participant at many fundraisers and events for such noteworthy organizations as the Carolina Tiger Rescue, Humane Society of Washington County, Salvation Army, Hope Reins Equine Therapy Program, Habitat for Humanity, Houston Blue Star Mothers, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Rescued Pets Movement. Additionally, as a Gold Star Family member and a scholarship recipient, she wholeheartedly supports the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization that helps the children of fallen Special Operators attend college.
In her free time she enjoys traveling, attending sporting events, theatre and meeting new people.
