MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WDVM) — UPDATE: 7/22 – Authorities need help identifying the man who died from an apparent drowning in the Potomac River on Tuesday night.
The Montgomery County Department of Police in Maryland is conducting a death investigation after a kayaker reported a body in the Potomac River, on the Virginia side. Detectives said they have not been able to identify the person and he does not match any missing persons reports.
Police describe the man as follows:
- He is believed to be a male
- of Indian or Pakistani descent
- in his early to mid-30s
- approximately 5’08” tall and weighing approximately 207 pounds
Autopsy results are pending, and police said they may release more information based on the results. Anyone with information about this death investigation or information about the identity of the decedent is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.

McLEAN, Va. (WDVM) — Authorities found a body in the Potomac River near Great Falls on Tuesday evening.
Pete Piringer with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue in Maryland said Swift Water Rescue teams found the deceased person wedged between some rocks in the Potomac River, in the area of Sandy Landing which is on the Virginia side of the river.
Piringer said a kayaker reported the incident. Montgomery County police officers are conducting the death investigation.
