With the sudden passing of Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, state election officials are figuring out a way to let voters know the late candidate’s running mate, Valerie Ervin, will be running instead.

Thursday, Montgomery County Council members sent a letter asking state and county boards of elections to make voters aware of changes to the gubernatorial candidate list. Montgomery County Board of Elections officials say the matter is out of their hands.

“I think it avoids possible disenfranchisement of voters. So whether it’s reprinting the ballots or having an actual insert that lists all of the gubernatorial tickets, we believe that is important,” said Nancy Navarro, Montgomery County Council Vice President.

The Primary Election will be held June 26. You can read the letter here.
