A 43-year-old Cumberland man was charged with the murder of his girlfriend on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, officials with the Cumberland Police and Fire Department responded to a home in the 1200-block of Oldtown Road.

When they arrived, officials said they discovered the body of a woman that had “obvious” signs of head trauma. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Jasmine Rannells.

The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit got involved with the investigation shortly after Rannells’ body was found.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home, and Rannells’ body was sent to the Maryland State Medial Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy. Results from these processes are pending.

After conducting interviews and collecting physical evidence, C3I officers determined that Kevin Bowers, Rannells’ boyfriend, was their suspect.

Bowers was charged with second-degree murder.

He is being held on a $1 million bond at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
