One local organization is taking its motto of sustainability to a whole new level by installing solar panels to power its facility.
Horizon Goodwill Industries in Washington County finished a multi-year project to convert its facility entirely to renewable energy.
The company predicts it will save one million dollars with the solar panel upgrades, which will enable them to hire 60 new people throughout the counties they serve.
“We are in the business of removing barriers and creating opportunity for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment,” said Horizon Goodwill CEO, John McCain. “We serve over 5,000 people every year, and we place almost 300 [people] every year in jobs.”
The donation facility near Hagerstown Regional Airport is now entirely powered through these solar panels.
