LA PLATA, Md. (DC News Now) — Sheriff’s deputies said that five people were shot and killed inside a single-family home Friday.

Members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and La Plata Police Department went to the home in the 3000 block of Wildflower Dr. after they received a report about a shooting there around 4 p.m.

Investigators still were working to identify the victims and figure out their relationships Friday night, as well as to determine who was responsible for the shooting.

“It’s a very traumatic scene, not only for the people who live here, but also for the officers who arrived and found what they did, and again we just ask that people will give us a call if they have information and just keep the community in their mind and their hearts,” said Diane Richardson with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

People who live in the area said the situation was unimaginable.

“I can’t believe it at all. This is a very quiet neighborhood, close to the hospital, beautiful area, new construction,” said neighbor Rachael Mitchell. “…We are just in shock.”
