Kristina Butler is a mother of three, a nurse practitioner, and one of a few contestants that received a prize for her photography at the Allegany Arts Council competition.

She won second place, $250, for a photograph she took of her children. Butler said capturing heartfelt memories with her kids is what led to her success.

“I love how you’re able to capture memories, even go beyond that and turn it into art. I was so shocked I won, to be honest,” said Butler in response to her victory.

Dave Romero, one of the co-chairs for the photography competition, said photography is starting to be more recognized in the Allegany community and it was a pleasure to have hosted the event to honor deserving artists like Kristina Butler.
