Maryland is the top state in the country for reports of at-fault driving accidents, according to a recent study done by the company Insurify.

Insurify’s database of over 1.6 million car insurance estimates show there were 511 fatal crashes in Maryland and the state averages more than one death a day from accidents. Experts believe this is because the state also has the second largest average commute time in the country.

“Stop-and-go is the number one cause of rear-enders, so you always have to have a proper following distance,” explained Dean Hamburg, co-owner of Allegany Driving School. “Usually we say three seconds, but in bad weather…and in high speeds we try to double that to five or six seconds.”
