WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (WDVM) — UPDATE: Maryland State Police have released the names of the victims of the accident. The deceased victims are identified as Stacy Virts, 50, of Sharpsburg, Md., Brooke Riley, 25, of Middletown, Md., and Anna Stottlemyer, 85, of Boonsboro, Md.

The injured are identified as David Stottlemyer, 58, of Boonsboro, Md., and Jerome Murphy, 61, of Hagerstown, Md. David Stottlemyer. Stottlemyer was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Murphy was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, according to Maryland State Police.

UPDATE: Maryland State Police have confirmed three deaths in regards to a multi-vehicle accident that occurred along Route 40 near Mt. Lena Road.

After a preliminary investigation, officers believe a Toyota Prius was stopped on Route 40 waiting to make a left hand turn onto Mt. Lena Road when a dump truck collided with the Prius from behind. The Prius was pushed into the eastbound lane and hit two motorcycles that were traveling in that lane.

Five people were involved, three were pronounced dead on the scene. The other two individuals involved, one person was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and the other was transferred to Meritus Medical Center.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (WDVM) — Maryland State Police are on scene for a three-vehicle accident along Route 40 near Mt. Lena Road.

State troopers say the incident was reported around 2:26 p.m. on Tuesday. There are at least three confirmed fatalities.

According to the Maryland Department of Transportation, multiple vehicles are involved and both the west and eastbound lanes are closed.
