UPDATE, Aug. 29, 10:11 a.m. — Maryland State Police said the third teenager who was in the car that hit the tractor trailer, 16-year-old Kannon Shives, died at the hospital on Friday, Aug. 26.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — Maryland State Police said troopers were investigating a crash on Interstate 81 that left two teenagers dead and another person hurt.

Police said Tyler Josenhans, 17, and a rear-seat passenger, Clayton Knode, 16, died after the car Josenhans was driving hit a tractor trailer as Josenhans was merging onto the interstate.

Another passenger in the car was hurt and being treated for his injuries.

Members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, as well as local fire and EMS, helped state troopers with the incident.

Maryland State Police said it still was investigating what led to the wreck.

Knode’s father is an officer with the Hagerstown Police Department which expressed its condolences to his family as well as the other families involved.
