An Australian model, actress and businesswoman all rolled into one. Winchester welcomed Elle Macpherson as the Grand Marshal of the 92nd Apple Blossom Festival.

“My biggest claim to fame probably is six covers of Sports Illustrated in the ’80s and ’90s. Since then, I’ve gone on to build a business around health and fitness,” said Apple Blossom Grand Marshal Elle Macpherson.

Macpherson says she believes that beauty starts from within and in 2014 she launched a business with that in mind.

“It’s called Wellco which supplies nutritional supplements, plant-based, to help people nourish themselves and it’s really a bridge between beauty and wellness,” said Macpherson.

Each year, the festival committee picks a well-known figure to lead the grand feature parade.

“We vary different years to have appeal to different age groups. We have brokers with whom we work and they suggest people and then we go to them with names that we want,” said Apple Blossom celebrities committee co-chair Kay Bollinger.

Macpherson currently lives in Miami and says she’s happy to see a part of the country she’s never been to.

“Elle was a different genre of grand marshals than what we’ve had before and we thought it would be interesting. We’ve had entertainers and actors and sports people and we just thought it would be a little bit different,” said Bollinger.

Rubbermaid was this year’s sponsor for the festival grand marshal.
