On Saturday, Costa Family Dentistry celebrated its second annual Dentistry from the Heart Day, offering free dental extractions, fillings and cleanings to the community.

Fully staffed with five dentists, one orthodontist and an oral surgeon, Costa Dentistry aimed to see 75 to 100 patients. Dentists say the mouth is the gateway to the body, making regular visits especially important, but with dental work price tags reaching a couple hundred dollars, a segment of the population can’t make it to the dentist.

Saturday’s procedures were valued at $200 to $350 each.

“We like to give back,” said owner Shane Costa, “and really make sure that those people are out of pain or have that tooth fixed that they needed to. It’s really important that we give back to the community as much as we can.”
