A summer camp is encouraging independence in children with disabilities.

iCan Shine, a program that travels country-wide, visited Leesburg this week. For the second year, the program partnered with Arc of Loudoun to produce iCan Bike at Tuscarora High School.

iCan Bike is a week-long camp that helps children ride on a two wheel bike independently. Coordinators say about 80 percent of campers with disabilities can ride a bike in five days.

“There are only a few campers who are students at the Aurora School attending the camp. almost all are from the community. We are the only local host this summer, and children often travel quite a ways to attend. Last year, they came from D.C., Springfield and Manassas,” said iCan Shine representatives.
