ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WDVM) — A suspect on the run in connection with two shootings in North Old Town has been located, Alexandria Police say. Officials say an officer sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

A foot pursuit took place after police responded to a report of a robbery at 5 a.m. on First Street. Police say the suspect began shooting during the pursuit.

Residents between Bashford Lane and Montgomery Street, from Washington Street/George Washington Memorial Parkway to the Potomac River were asked to shelter in place for over two hours.

Around 8:30 a.m. the suspect was found dead. No details have been released on how the suspect was killed.

The suspect may have been connected to a second shooting in the area, officials say.

Police say there is no longer a threat to public safety, and a shelter in place for Old Town has been lifted.

At this time, the suspect and the officer’s name have not been announced.
