The Frederick Police Department said there is a growing trend within the past couple of days, where a certain item is being removed from random cars.

FPD officials said within the past few days, they have gotten reports of catalytic converters being cut from random vehicles.

They said it only takes a matter of minutes for someone with experience to cut them off so they can sell them.

The most recent reports came from Taney Avenue and Waverly Drive.

“The car will still run, but what we’re noticing is that when people start up the car, the car sounds extremely loud, like it’s missing the muffler or there is something wrong with the muffler,” said Frederick Police Department, Community Outreach Specialist, Michele Bowman.

Police said there is no word on any suspects, and if anyone is a victim of this crime, please contact the Frederick Police Department at (301) 600-2100.
