Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection is launching a Solar Co-Op – a rooftop solar program for homeowners in the county.

Officials say this Solar Co-Op program is in place to help residents’ access solar panel installations for lower costs. This is the third time the county has partnered with Montgomery Green along with other organizations. The program is in place to help the county achieve its energy efficiency goals while improving the lives of its residents. The county recently made it their goal to reduce their carbon footprint by 2035.

“We’ve had over 200 people install solar on their homes in Montgomery County using the solar co-op model it’s been really successful in the county, the state of Maryland, and other places across the nation,” said Lindsey Shaw, Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.

The program is open to all homeowners in the county. There is an information session Tuesday May 7 at 7 p.m. at Rockville city hall.
