Calling all commuters!

Northern Virginia set new cuts to the Metro today.

If you take the train from Wiehle-Reston eastbound, you may want to look for alternative means of transportation in the coming weeks.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is shutting down five Metro stations and is slashing Silver Line service in half.

The SafeTrack program is intended to keep the focus on Metro safety. Commuters are weighing in.

“The one thing that maybe they will realize is an alternative, like a bicycle or a bus, but in almost all situations, any kind of other alternative that you take is going to be slower,”  said Metro commuter Michael Drumstn.

Metro riders are still encouraged to take other means of transportation while the work is taking place.

Again, the cutbacks will be in-effect starting from today until June 15.
