March 8 was International Women’s Day, but on March 9, Montgomery County women came together to help others in the community.
It was part of a project called She Builds. Female contractors volunteered their time to renovate two homes and a women’s shelter. Volunteers added a woman’s touch to Rainbow Place, a shelter that’s only open during the winter months. They painted the bathrooms, added curtains and installed shelving.
“When things are going not so well for you and you’re not feeling good about yourself, your surroundings are really important. That’s very important for your self esteem,” said Nancy Sushinsky.
More than 70 volunteers worked on the three projects in Silver Spring, Rockville and Damascus.
