On Monday, a construction worker died while working at a construction site at a new elementary school in Urbana.
According to a press release from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, one worker fell 25 feet to the ground and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident came after scaffolding collapsed as two workers were attaching panels to the exterior of the new Sugarloaf Elementary School that’s being built in the 3400-block of Stone Barn Drive around 11 Monday morning.
The second worker was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital and is being treated for a leg injury, officials said.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said names are being withheld pending notification to family members.
“The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Department are on site conducting an investigation about what transpired earlier today,” said Frederick County Public Schools, COO, Paul Lebo.
